Macintosh

On the Mac, files must be of type TEXT. These are created by saving the file as 'text only' from Word, Excel, File Maker, Claris Works, or any other program that supports exporting of data. Doing so should automatically save them as tab-delimited format.

Windows

Files must end in the .TXT standard for text only files in Windows.

If files do not end in .TXT, you can rename them in the dialog.
